My Momfessional Moments!!

I'm so excited to be linking up with Andrea today to share my "Momfessional Moments!"

This is probably the most embarrassing mom moment I've had to date, although I'm sure there will be many more!

My Embarrassing mom moment
Four or five days after Alec was born, we went to the pediatrician for his first doctor's visit.  We were running late and I didn't have a lot of energy (I had just had a C-section a few days before), so I just threw on a sports bra and a sweatshirt for the appointment, along with a thick winter coat (because it was January).  It was really hot in the exam room, and just as the doctor was walking in I was taking my jacket off.
The appointment went fine.  Alec was healthy and happy.
The doctor walked out of the room and I could have sworn he was avoiding eye contact with me.
Then I figured out why.
It must have been those two huge round wet spots on my shirt right where my boobs are.
Yup, I was leaking.  A LOT.

If only I'd know about these back then!!  :)

And here are a couple confessions for you...

**On the way home from work, I occasionally stop at the McDonalds 5 minutes from my house and get a vanilla ice cream cone. Then I scarf it down really quick in my car so my kids don't see it and ask for their own cones!

**Sometimes I get up in the middle of the night and eat all the Goldfish crackers.  Then when the kids ask where the Goldfish went, I say daddy ate them!

**I frequently bribe my son with the promise of a Lego I have no intention of giving him.

Thanks for the link up Andrea!  I can't wait to read everyone's Momfessional moments!!

Summer bucket list 2015

Happy Monday!  Did you all have a great weekend? Ours was pretty typical...Tball, a birthday party, cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping.   Oh and we worked on our yard expansion project (post to come when it's totally finished).  I also read a new (to me) book....The List of my Desires (thank you Shelly Cobblewobbles!) and found out my children will eat almost anything if its on a skewer stick!

And I also started thinking about summer plans.
With our Disney trip coming up in 9 days (eeek!) our summer vacation budget is pretty much blown!   But there are still some things I would like to accomplish, and many of them are free or low cost!  So here they are (In no particular order).

1.  Camp out in our backyard (complete with smores)
2.  Read 4 new books
3.  Go to the Bronx Zoo and/or Animal Land
4.  Go to a local state park for swimming and a picnic
5.  Watch fireworks
6.  Grow vegetables on my deck
7.  Go on a 4 wheeling trip with the hubby
8.  Go to Maine for a long weekend
9.  Take a great family picture and put it on a canvas
10. Organize all closets in the house
11. Visit a new Farmers' market
12. Organize the kitchen cabinets
13. Go to a county fair and eat fried dough
14. Let the kids get ice cream from the ice cream truck at least 3 times
15. Try Hannaford To-Go (grocery shop on line and pick up at the store...your groceries are all packed and loaded into your car for you)!
16. Make homemade sangria
17. Spend a weekend at my parent's house and just relax and enjoy the pool

So tell me, what's on your summer bucket list?

Friday Favorites and a new Facebook page!

Exciting times here on the blog!  It's Friday AND I've finally started a Facebook page!!

But... first things first...  my favorites!

#1 is definitely Mother's day.  The whole weekend was just lovely and I had such a great day Saturday with my parents and Sunday with my hubby and boys.  If you missed my post, you can read about my Mother's day HERE.

Then this afternoon, my daycare hosted "Tea and Toddlers."  It was so sweet.  They had finger sandwiches, scones, cookies, fruit and iced tea.  And check out those cute presents they made!  LOVE my daycare!

#2 my Monogrammed sunhat!  OMG is this not gorgeous??  I plan on having this on my head every day we are in Florida!  If you would like your own (or anything else monogrammed for that matter) head on over to Honey Pie Accessories.  Elaine is awesome and does amazing work!

#3  Crab apple blossoms!!  My tree sprung to life this week with these beautiful blossoms!  Unfortunately, they only last about a week (at most) but they sure are lovely for the short time they are here!

#4 Target $1 bin finds!
Check out this haul!  Woo hoo!!!  I have visions of using those little patriotic buckets in some sort of July 4th tablescape!

#5 These crazies!

They may drive me nuts some days, and make me late for work pretty much EVERY day with their morning antics, but they are hilarious!

Ninja?  Pirate?

Refusing to smile...but then he did :)

OK- now onto the REALLY exciting stuff!!  I finally started a Facebook page for the blog and I would LOVE for you to LIKE it!!   And... once I get 100 likes I am going to have a giveaway for a $25  Starbucks gift card!  Woo hoo!!!

You can find Life as I Know it's Facebook page HERE

Thanks so much friends and have a great weekend!!

Mommy moments-I'm not ready for kindergarten!

Today was the day.  Kindergarten screening.  How did this day come so fast?  How is it possible that my first born is 5 years old and going to the "big school"in 4 months?  4 MONTHS?!?!  Just the thought of it makes me want to break into tears.

In case you don't know what kindergarten screening is, it's basically just assessing your child's readiness for kindergarten.  Evaluating their motor development, speech, hearing, language and readiness skills- things like hand-eye coordination, clarity of speech patterns and communication skills, knowledge of colors, counting, position, ability to write their name, follow directions, etc.

I was so nervous for him.  He's a very smart boy, but still, I was nervous.  This is my first go-around with sending a child to kindergarten and I'm not quite sure what to expect.  As we pulled into the school parking lot Nick whispered, "I'm a little shy today."  "It's OK honey!"  I said.  "There's nothing to be scared about.  Everyone here is really nice and you are going to have fun."   But I felt a pit in my stomach as I said it.

We made it into the building.  We made it through visitor sign in.  We were on our way to the screening room.  And then, the bell rang.  40 or so elementary students flooded the hall.  Nick's hand tightened into a death grip around mine.  We stopped and let everyone pass, and all was well again.

After a brief wait, they called Nick into the room.  He looked a little apprehensive to go in by himself, but walked in without protest or complaint.  2 minutes later I looked through the door and he was talking, smiling and laughing.

The entire thing took a little over an hour.  While Nick was doing his activities, I met with one of the kindergarten teachers, the school nurse, and finally the school psychologist to go over the results. And guess what?  He did great!

Honestly, I may be a lot more worried about this whole kindergarten thing than Nick is.  It's strange- Nick has gone to daycare/pre-school since he was 12 weeks old.  He is used to being away from me during the day, used to socializing with other kids, used to following a daily schedule and routine.  But there is just something about kindergarten.  It's the start of a new phase of his life.  It's the start of him becoming more independent.  It's the start of him needing me less and less.  I feel like I am going to lose part of my little boy and that makes my heart hurt.

It's bittersweet watching your child grow up.

I do feel a little better after today.  After meeting the teachers and seeing how nice they are and how much they genuinely seem to care.  But of course I still worry.  Will he be safe?  Will he be sad? Will kids be mean to him?  Will he make friends?  Will he like his teacher?  Will his teacher like him? Will he pay attention?  Will he be bullied?  Will HE be a bully?  I don't know if these thoughts will ever really stop.  Lessen, sure.  Stop completely, probably not.

On the positive side, I do have 4 more months to mentally prepare myself.  Not my son, ME!  LOL After his experience today, Nick seems pretty excited to go to kindergarten in the fall.  He is going to be fine.  He is going to love it.  Deep down, I truly believe this.   He will still be my little boy, just smarter, stronger, and a little more independent. And that's a good thing (I just need to keep reminding myself of that)!!  I know in the end, my excitement at seeing him learn, grow, mature, and experience so many amazing firsts will outweigh any sadness I feel about "losing my little boy."

So, to my handsome, amazing, smart and funny son, I say this:
Get ready!!  In a few short months you will start the most exciting journey of your life!

And to myself I say:
You got this mama!!

Weekending- Mother's Day edition!

What a wonderful weekend!  This was truly one of the most enjoyable weekends I've had in a long time.  Don't get me wrong- the kids were still crazy.  They still fought over Legos, ran screaming through the house with no clothes on, and jumped on the couch.  There were quite a few time outs and tantrums.  Yet somehow,  all this seemed to bother me slightly less this weekend!  Maybe it was the magic of Mother's day or the amazing weather.  Maybe it's because the trees finally have leaves and all the cherry and apple trees are in bloom with their beautiful pink and white blossoms. Or maybe it's because we're going to Disney in two and a half weeks (woo hoo)!  Whatever it was, I am grateful and truly blessed!

My pretty crab apple tree
Beautiful blossoms
Magic bands have arrived!  2 weeks!  Eeeek!!

Friday night we went to Lowes and picked up a gazebo for our deck.  I LOVED IT.  I loved it all 16 hours we had it.  Long story short, half of it blew off our deck!  I was devastated.  But thankfully Lowes took it back and we ended up getting a bigger and better one.

Saturday my parents came up to visit.  We went to Nick's T ball game and then came back to our house for lunch.  We grilled out (thank you to the hubs for making some delicious ka-bobs and being the grill master) and enjoyed the gazebo (it blew away about an hour after they left).  It was an absolutely GORGEOUS day.  The weather was perfect and it was so nice to see my parents and spend time together.  Saturday night we watched movies and had popcorn (per Nick's request).

T ball time!

Sunday I got to sleep in (hooray!) and then we headed to one of my favorite places for a Mother's day brunch.  Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE brunch?  Well, I do!!  After all that deliciousness, we went to Lowes to get our new gazebo and did some flower and vegetable shopping.  Then we hit our favorite ice cream spot on the way home.  The rest of the day was spent relaxing.  I gave myself a new Jamicure and caught up on some of my favorite blogs.  Perfect, perfect, perfect!!

Flowers and brunch with my family...my favorite!

Love my jams!

I hope you all had an amazing weekend and that all you mommys out there got some time to relax, sleep in, and enjoy some good food!  And if you did, please tell me all about it in the comments!!

Oh, and one more thing!!  I FINALLY started a Facebook page for my blog!  So if you care to, please give my page a LIKE!!   Thanks so much!!!

Weekending- Anniversary edition!

This weekend the hubs and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary!  And even more amazing than that, we've been together for almost 17 years!  Now that makes me feel OLD!!!  It hasn't been easy friends, not at all.  There have been some amazing highs and some very deep lows.  But here we are today, May 4th 2015, officially married 13 years!

We decided to spend our anniversary weekend in Boston (one of our favorite weekend getaways),  and it just so happened that the Red Sox were playing the Yankees at Fenway!!  If you are a fan of either of these teams, or just a fan of baseball in general, you know this is a match up you don't want to miss!!

OK, little disclosure here.  Yes, I like the Red Sox.  Yes, my blog profile says I am a Red Sox fan. Yes, I love watching games at Fenway.  All this is true.  However, when the Red Sox play the Yankees I gotta cheer for the Yankees.  I was a die hard Yankees fan for a long time, and I just can't bring myself to NOT root for them against their arch rivals!!  I know, this is all very unnatural... how can I like the Yankees AND the Red Sox?  That just doesn't happen!  Well, I do!  End of story!

So anyway, we headed to Fenway and watched a great game!  The hubs rooted for the Sox and I rooted for the Yankees.  And the Yankees won!  We enjoyed some beer and hot dogs at the park (gotta do it!) and then walked back to our hotel after the game to work off some of the calories.

After a wonderfully long nap, we realized our nap was a little too long and a little too wonderful because we slept through our dinner reservations at Top of the Hub!  Oh well.  Naps are precious these days and I would definitely trade a fancy dinner for a good nap!  So it was on to plan B which consisted of walking across the road from our hotel and having dinner at 5 Napkin Burger.  :)  Now, you might not think so, but our dinner was actually really good!  The burger was delish and the guacamole and chips appetizer we got was amazing (who knew a burger place could make such good guac!!).   After dinner we grabbed some cheesecake to bring back to the room and just chilled and relaxed.  We slept in on Sunday and slowly made our way home,  It was glorious!

I love getting away for a night or 2 for our anniversary.  When we were first married, we said we would always go on vacation to celebrate our anniversary.  Well, now that we have 2 kids that's not quite so easy.  But we usually do manage to get away for at least a night.  Some of our favorite spots are Boston, Montreal, and Lake Placid.  What about you?  What are some of your favorite spots for a quick getaway?  How do you typically celebrate your wedding anniversary?

Books & Bloggers Swap- REVEAL!!

I just participated in my very first Books & Bloggers swap and it was AMAZING!!  Thank you to Chaotic Goddess Swaps for setting up such a fun swap!

I was paired up with the lovely Shelly from the United Kingdom.  Shelly has her own You Tube channel called CollyoftheWobbles.  If you love books, check her out!!  She has such excitement and love for books and it is so much fun to watch and listen to her (and yes, who doesn't want to listen to a beautiful English accent)!

So... the rules of the swap were to send the following:
1.  A book from your partner's wishlist
2.  A book you have read and loved
3.  A book you are interested in but have not yet read (could also be from your partner's wishlist)

Check out what I got!

1.  A book from my wishlist:
The Five People You Meet in Heaven
I have been wanting to read this for so long, and now I finally have a copy!

2.  A book Shelly has read and loved
The List of my Desires
I had not previously heard of this book, but it looks really good!  A perfect book fit for me!  It also has such an adorable cover!  Aren't those buttons awesome?!

3.  A book Shelly is interested in:
Station Eleven
Guess what... I also sent this book to Shelly!!  We both had it on our wishlists!

Shelly also sent me a great book mark pad!  No more dog eared pages for this girl!  :)  And look at those cute bookmarkers that the Book Depository included!  By the way... the Book Depository ships FREE internationally so don't ever be afraid to partner up with someone from another country for one of these swaps!

I truly had such a great time participating in this swap and getting to know Shelly!  Thank you Shelly for the great books!  I can't wait to start reading!!
