It's Friday Favorite time!

This week went by so quick!  Not that I'm complaining...bring on the weekend!  Here are my favorites for the week.  Hope you enjoy!

1.  These Gerber daisy centerpieces.  I love Gerber daisies and I love mason jars!  I hope to re-create some of these soon!

2.  The Stella & Dot Fall Line
I can't believe I just discovered Stella & Dot a few months ago!  I'm very excited they've come out with their fall line.  Here are a couple of my favorites.
Geo Ikat Knitted Scarves for Women | Union Square Scarf
Union Square Scarf- Geo Ikat
aqua-based
Somervell necklace
Cute Gold Chain Pearl Necklace | Gabrielle Pearl Necklace

3.  Sparkling Ice
I have LIVED on these this summer!  I have a horrible soda addiction I am trying to kick and this is the first thing I've found that might actually be able to replace it!  It's fizzy, delicious and 0 calories!!  It also has vitamins and antioxidants and comes in several flavors.  Win-win!

4.  This Cape Code style house
I love this house.  I love the dormers.  I LOVE the front porch.  I can imagine sitting on that porch on a hot summer day, sipping lemonade in my rocking chair.

5.  This sign.
I have this same sign (a little variation in color and font) hanging above my front door.  It's there to remind me to find the joy in everything I do.  That even if we end up on a path that wasn't planned, there are lessons to learn and joy to find along the way.

Find joy in every journey primitive wood sign

Well, there you have it.  My 5 favorites for the week.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend enjoying family and friends!!

Weekending

Well Monday, here we are again.  I have to tell you, I'm not too thrilled you're back.  I really could have used a few more days of weekend!

For a completely unplanned and unscheduled weekend, it turned out pretty well!
Friday night I finally satisfied my Melting Pot craving!  It was sooooo good and I was soooo stuffed!  I was also soooo happy to have a girls night out with my friend Amy!  Between my kids, her kids and our busy schedules, it can be tough to schedule time to hang out.

Saturday the kids and I spent most of our time watching TV and playing while daddy did his college coursework.  Somehow I even got in an hour nap!  Glorious!  Saturday evening we headed to Dick's to get some soccer gear for Nick.  I can't believe his first practice is this week!  A sure sign that fall is coming...
After dinner we went out to dinner and then grocery shopping.  Riveting, I know!  :)

Sunday I made a spur of the moment decision to pack up the boys and head out to my parents for the day.  We had a lovely day swimming, relaxing on the deck and spending time with the family.  We also had some delicious Brooks BBQ chicken.  If you live in upstate NY, you have probably heard of Brooks.  They have the most amazing chicken EVER.  It's definitely one of the things I miss from home.
Headed out to my parents... love those hills!
Brooks BBQ- the best chicken you will ever eat!

When we got home, Nick decided he wanted to play Scientist.  "Mom, scientists wear a coat, a hat, gloves, and goggles to protect their eyes."  True, although I have never seen a scientist in this exact get-up...

"The Scientist"
LOVE their expressions!!

Such a ham!
It was a great weekend and I was sad to see it go!   Hope you all had a great one too!  We only have a few left before summer is over!

Vacationing with a toddler. UGH.

Once upon a time, vacations meant rest, relaxation and rejuvenation.  Then we had kids.
Vacations became tiring and stressful, and I was more exhausted when I got home from vacation than I was when I left.  Well, this year it's going to be different!  Please.  I hope.  I'm really gonna try!!!

Nick is 4 1/2 now and very good at entertaining himself.  Alec is 1 1/2 and not so good at entertaining himself, especially in the car.  Last year on our trip to Maine (while in deadlocked traffic for about 2 hours) he screamed and cried.  And cried and screamed.  And then did it some more.  It was excruciating.  He has gotten better in the car since then but still  has frequent meltdowns.  You know how they say to let them cry it out?  Yeah.  Well that doesn't work with Alec.  You'd think after an hour of screaming and crying the kid would fall asleep.  Nope.  He just keeps keep on going.

So here are my plans for this year's 4 hour trip to Maine:
1.  Snacks, and lots of them.  Juice, milk, cheerios, goldfish, animal crackers.  Sometimes food is the only thing that will keep them quiet!
2.  Electronic devices.  We don't have dvd players in our cars, but I'm thinking of getting some that mount on the headrest.  Then both kids can watch a movie or show and hopefully stay entertained.  I also plan on bringing the Leap pad, Kindle,  ipad and any other thing I can find that makes noise and has video.
3.  Toys.  Lots of websites will tell you to pack coloring books, crayons and crafting supplies.  Except my kids don't like crafting, and I can't really see how Alec is going to color a picture in his car seat.  BUT... I bet he could put together some MegaBlocks or large Legos if I put the box next to his seat.  I'm thinking maybe a large milkcrate in between the boys filled with toys for them to grab at their leisure.
4.  Books.  I'm thinking books where you lift up the flap to reveal a picture, or has pages with interesting textures you can touch.  Something with a little more to do than just look at the pictures.
5.  Leave right before nap time.  Although we usually like to get an early start, I am thinking it might be better to leave around 12-12:30 since Alec usually takes his nap around 1:00.  I'm hoping this strategy will get me a good 2 hours of peace and quiet in the car!

Here are my plans for the actual vacation:
1.  Beach time.  Hopefully we will have some nice weather while we are there and get to enjoy some (or a lot) of time at the beach.  For beach days, I plan on packing snacks (of course), a bucket and shovel, some toy trucks, and kites.  I also have a little kid's play tent I am considering bringing.  It's easy to set up and would provide the kids some shade if it's hot and sunny.
2.  Day trips/activities.  I already know I want to take the kids out on a lobstering tour and to the Maine Wildlife Park.  I need to do some research and make sure we have several other possible activities/day trips planned.  I also need to make sure I have some indoor places we can go in case in rains.
3.  New toys.  For our down time at the house, I think it would be good to have a couple new toys for the kids.  Something that will keep them interested and occupied.  I'm thinking some new Lego sets, maybe a new game for Nick's leap pad, maybe some new and different building blocks.  Probably some new puzzles too.

OK, so that's my list so far.  Any additional suggestions would be much appreciated!!  I would love for you to leave a suggestion in the comments!  :)

Leaving you with some of my favorite photos of vacations past...

Friday faves- A happy week!

This has been a great week!  Here are some of my favorite moments...

1.  Mommy and Nick's day of fun!

Ready for some fun!
The best part of my week was playing hooky with my son on Thursday.  I think it's important to make sure we get some one-on-one time together now that he's not an only child anymore.  We started off the day at Toys R Us where Nick got a new Batman Lego set and we bought a present for his friend who is having her 5th birthday in a couple weeks.

After Toys R Us, we headed to the theatre to see Planes Search and Rescue.  Nick was really more interested in the popcorn than the movie!

Movie time was followed by a trip to the illustrious McDonalds for a happy meal and some time in the "Play Place."   Yes, I know how unhealthy McDonalds is but this was a special day of fun!

He's somewhere in there!

After McDonalds we ran some errands and then headed home because Nick couldn't wait to build his new Lego set.  He did some Lego building while watching Wreck it Ralph.  He requested Frozen, but I just didn't have it in me to watch it for an 8th time this week!!!!  It was a lovely day with my big boy!

2.  This new recipe!
My parents gave me some zucchini from their garden and I was looking for something delicious to do with it.  I found a new recipe for chocolate chip zucchini bread that is absolutely amazing!  Here is the LINK.
I think I put too much baking cocoa in, but I'm glad!  It was so delicious!  Like a sweet and moist chocolate cake brownie!  If you are looking to use up your zucchini, I highly recommend this recipe!

You'd never know there's a vegetable in there!

3.  Team building days!
Monday we left work early and headed out to watch the Valley Cats play for our team building event.  It was a hot day, but we were in the air conditioned luxury suites with a great view and good food.  And we got to go home early!  WIN-WIN!

 4. Bedtime stories!
Alec has been really into stories lately.  His favorite right now is Llama llama nighty-night.  He LOVES it.  He wants it read over and over.  AND OVER.  We also like Llama llama red pajama and plan on getting a few more of the Llama llama series.

These are some of our current favorites right now.  Nick loves Tiny-Rannosaurus and Just A Little Luck (really any of the little critters book).  We also love Pout-Pout Fish.  Such a cute read!

5.  Crockpot recipes!
I love quick and easy dinners for the weeknights.  I've been scouring Pinterest and am finding some really good stuff!  Tonight I tried crockpot chicken tacos.  This is literally the easiest thing you will ever make for dinner!  All you do is throw chicken breast, taco seasoning and salsa into a crockpot.  Cook all day on low (or high for 3-4 hours like I did today), mix & shred and voila!  You've got a tasty base for your taco!  I threw cheese, pico de gallo and green onion on mine with a side of guacamole.   YUM.

It's been a fun week and I am hoping for a fun weekend too!   Hope you all have a lovely weekend!
And don't forget, I love your comments and am always excited for some new followers!  :)

Mud pies, the fair, and a photo shoot

Happy first week of August!  Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!  Here is a recap of ours...

Friday night the hubs worked late so the boys and I had mommy-son date night making mud pies!

First we must smash the Oreos!

Nick's creation- a little heavy on the worms!

Messy and delicious!

After mud pies we had a quick dance party and snacks on Sponge Bob plates.  Why?  Because everything is better with Sponge Bob!

Saturday we headed to the fair...

Does your fair have pig races?!?!?

 Then out to dinner....

Sunday we relaxed with Georgie...

Tried to take some selfies...

And had a Lego photo shoot while wearing PJs and a  Fedora...

That's about it!  We had a lovely summer weekend together as a family.  Hope you all did too!!  Happy Monday!!!
